Pilot didn’t know he’d lost half a wing
In our first entry in the “I cant believe he’s still alive category” involved an Irish Pilot (we are being serious here) who took a Cessna 210 for a spin and didn’t realize that he’d lost half his wing until he spotted his back-up fuel tank gauge was on empty as he flew over the Englsih Channel on his way to Portugal.
Apparently the Cessna 210’s wing was split in two when it hit a tree on take-off but the pilot thought he had just hit a small bird.
