Tribal girl wants to marry a cobra
OK, we know Britney Spears is into snakes but this tale from India is something again.
People are apparently thronging an Orissa village in India to take a gander at a girl who’s fallen in love with a snake and wants to marry it.
Kusum,15, had gone to swin in the river Saveri nearby. While bathing she found a cobra getting wrapped around her.
Panic-stricken Kusum shook the reptile off and fell unconscious after that. When she became conscious again, she told her father Bhagaban Nayak and family that she has to marry the cobra.
Kusum’s father first took her to a medical doctor and later to a witchdoctor. A rigorous rituals-laden puja of the cobra followed but to no avail. Kusum refused to back of from her demand. Finally her father Bhagaban appears to have relented. “May be it is the wish of the God,”he says.
A slithery tale if if ever there was one

Anyway , for the interested…I’ve seen / read this story somewhere before but that’s not the whole story. The truth is that the woman at first was afraid of the snake. ( Of course…who wouldn’t be? And think about it…why would she try to get it off of her if she had no problem with it being on her? )
What eventually changed her mind? She had a dream or several dreams about the snake. It / he was the one that wanted to marry her. While most people would write this off as weirdness and stupidity…others would be more understanding. Some people believe that animals can communicate with us through dreams and if one believes in reincarnation , it’s possible that some snakes have human souls / were human in a past life. I’m sure there’s other explanations that could be taken into consideration…Whatever you believe , it’s still an interesting story. I wouldn’t call it dumb though just because marrying a snake is an unusual idea or you don’t wanna believe in reincarnation , the power of dreams , and stuff like that.
