AT&T Has the Dumbest Policies!

I just got off a one hour phone call with my buddy Brad, the manager at a call center at AT&T.
The reason I was calling was to set up unlimited calls for me to Canada. I had spoken with a few other AT&T employees who had told me conflicting quotes so I asked to speak with the manager to make sure I was getting the correct information.
Let’s skip past the frustrating first 20 minutes with Brad where he was trying to make me pay for services I didn’t want and cut to the stupid case at hand! In order to get unlimited calls to Canada you need to subscribe to what they call Unlimited Nationwide calling. So we crunched the numbers for unlimited nationwide (USA) and unlimited Canada and we were almost ready to have him set it up when my husband wanted to double check that there were no hidden fees per call or anything for the long distance. Brad said no, but he would double check. He came back after a few moments to tell us that indeed there were no extra charges for long distance calling, but reminded us that our original plan on our phone charged 3-5 cents per call within a 15 mile radius and he said that would still apply!
I was confused….I asked, "So if I were to call my mother, who lives in Vancouver, BC I wouldn’t pay anything for the call, but if I call my neighbor downstairs I would have to pay 3-5 cents per call?" He said yes.
I asked, "But the unlimited plan is called unlimited NATIONWIDE…my neighbor is within the nation!".
At this point my husband and I couldn’t help but laugh our asses off as he explained that local calls do not count as within the "Nation".
For those of you who may be facing similar frustrating circumstances with your telephone provider we recommend either using Skype or Yak, a service where you dial a prefix like 10-15-945 before your long distance number and then only pay like 5 cents a minute to Canada or the US.
