Sydney Aus or Sidney Montana?
How can someone be dumb enough to mistake a plane ticket to Sydney Australia for Sidney Montana USA? So sad for him, but really funny to hear about:
EVERYONE knows Australia is a long way from Europe – but not many would expect their journey from Germany to Sydney to involve catching six connecting flights and take almost a week to complete.
Unless you’re German tourist Tobias Gutt. After mistyping his destination on a flight booking website, the hapless 21-year-old instead ended up 13,000km away near Sidney in the freezing US state of Montana.Dressed for a hot Sydney summer in T-shirt and shorts, Mr Gutt flew out of the small German town of Treuenbrietzen two days before Christmas.
But instead of landing in Sydney to be greeted by girlfriend Laura, he found himself half a world away.
"I froze terribly," he told German newspaper Bild.If only Mr Gutt had checked his airline ticket properly. In bold type read the letters ‘USA’.
"I thought to myself, ‘You can fly to Australia via the United States’," he said.
Mr Gutt’s four-week holiday began when he flew out of his hometown bound for Germany’s capital, Berlin.
After a stop in Frankfurt his journey took a drastically wrong turn – he landed in the city of Portland in Oregon, US.
The luckless tourist should have realised something was dreadfully wrong when he was then bundled into a small propeller-driven aircraft, rather than a large jet.
"I did wonder but I didn’t want to say anything," Mr Gutt said.
Flying over Montana’s snow-covered mountains, he began to wonder some more.
When he landed at Billings Airport – the final stop before the small oil town of Sidney – Mr Gutt was ushered on to another light aircraft when he finally plucked up the courage to say something had gone wrong.
In Sydney, girlfriend Laura was expecting him to arrive at 8pm the night before Christmas.
Finally, he called to say he wouldn’t make it – because he was on the other side of the world.
Laura was devastated.
"I was so disappointed I destroyed all the Christmas decorations," she said.
Back home in Germany, Mr Gutt’s parents were worried how their son would cope on his own in the cold American wilderness.
His mother Sabine, 46, said the family collected 600 euros ($1000) from neighbors and friends and sent it over, enabling him to pay for a flight to Australia.
"I didn’t notice the mistake as my son is usually good with computers," Mrs Gutt said.
But it was three days before he could get a flight, forcing the stricken trekker to remain at the airport with just a simple cardigan to protect him from sub-zero temperatures.
Finally he got a flight to Los Angeles and then a connection on to Sydney.
United with Laura, the pair will spend the next few weeks sightseeing around the Harbour City before returning home.

I’m thinking that maybe the mistake with the ticket was a sign.
She was so upset that she DESTROYED all of the Christmas decorations?
And, what will she do the first time that he makes her mad?
