Noah’s Ark Replica built in the Netherlands

by Leora on April 28th, 2007

The new Noah's ArkDoes anyone else find it kind of ironic that a creationist has built a "Noah’s Ark" partly in anticipation of global warming?

The massive central door in the side of Noah’s Ark was thrown open Saturday — you could say it was the first time in 4,000 years — drawing a crowd of curious pilgrims and townsfolk to behold the wonder.

Of course, it’s only a replica of the biblical Ark, built by Dutch creationist Johan Huibers as a testament to his faith in the literal truth of the Bible.

Reckoning by the old biblical measurements, Johan’s fully functional ark is 150 cubits long, 30 cubits high and 20 cubits wide. That’s two-thirds the length of a football field and as high as a three-story house.

Life-size models of giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles, zebras, bison and other animals greet visitors as they arrive in the main hold.

"The design is by my wife, Bianca," Huibers said. "She didn’t really want me to do this at all, but she said if you’re going to anyway, it should look like this."

Dumb is right! People who believe in the Noah’s arc story are capable of believing just about anything…except the obvious. The Bible is not a Fact book, and God does not exist. Everyone on this planet need to educate themselves. Please Read:
The End of Faith - Sam Harris
A Letter to a Christian Nation - Sam Harris
The God Delusion - Richard Dawkins
God: The Failed Hypothesis - Victor Stenger
Breaking the Spell - Daniel C. Dennett
The Bible Unearthed - Israel Finkelstein and Neil Aher Silberman

    EDUCATE YOURSELVES!

Your comment assumed a fact that did not exist. The author never said he built the ark in anticipation of global warming or rising sea levels. Others visiting were the ones who said that. The author did in fact say that he was sure the world would never flood again because God said he would never flood it again, putting the rainbow in the sky as His promise to that effect. What I do find ironic is the malevolence in which some treat creationists when in fact they do not understand the fantastic evidence which supports the biblical account of creation. Matter of fact, as a scientist and science teacher, I can not find one evolutionist who can maintain his stance on evolution using the scientific method or mathematics. I can use both to substantiate creationism, everyday. I’ve seen Phd’s check their logic in at the door in order to feverishly defend the dogma of evolution that is their intellectual jihad against the truth. My stance is factual. Theirs is emotional. I’ve not met one yet who can hold an intelligent debate against creationism. I personally am a convert from evolution to creationism by weighing the facts and applying logic. That’s the difference between the two. And the irony is that those who stand upon evolution, stand upon presumption and illogic, the quicksand of truth, in order to perpetuate the idea of evolution in the name of science.

since this model is only 1/5 the size of the alleged original everyone who believes the arc existed should agree that he should be able to fit 1/5 of the worlds’ species of animals aboard and float around without sinking. the animals will also need to be fed, so lots of supplies should be brought. you can all keep your fairy tale. it’s not for me although this is an impressive feet.

Hmmm–yup. I’m a practising Catholic, born Lutheran. In netiher denomination does one find such strict constructionists (well, maybe Wisconsin Synod Lutherans). In fact, it’s just the opposite. I was always taught that God could do as He wished, and was pointed to Old Testament verses that made it clear that “days” was not literal, e.g., that which said a day to God is as a thousand years, and a thousand years is to God as a single day. We were taught that the six (and you’ll find fundalmentalists who belive it was seven, blindly ingnoring the “day” of rest) “days” were figurative, and even roughly corresponded to archeological discoveries of developmental periods of the Earth. I’m stunned and frightened by the fundamentalists who try to create God in their own image (rather than vica versa), which obviously relies on a limited imagination. They want to pigeonhole God to fit their limited ability to understand. They also blindly ignore the fact that Jesus spoke often in parables, figurative lessons, which are embodied Biblically–should one not presume that the culture of the area was accustomed to figurative lessons? Having lived in The Netherlands for some time in my past, I’m surprised to see that there still exists, in a very secular and wordly country, the type of person who gave rise to a staunchly Calvinist breed that gave birth to the Afrikaners and thus apartheid.

Square water melons and genetically engineered food are samples that once in a while, life is created. Not a proof, but a plausibility.

Maybe the disbelievers will make a mad dash in vain to seek life and shelter when Earth’s axis tilts again, and a known planet leaves its orbit to collide with our planet, causing mortal bombardment from space, and causing its ultimate cataclysmic implosion: Life as we know it will be no more.

Only then will they understand God’s wrath as they face certain Death. However, those who believe in Him will be saved to re-populate the Earth. Disbelievers will not be spared !! I,for one opt for the Ark.
