Helmet Saves Man Run Over by Truck

Helmet Saves Man Run Over by Truck

Always wear a helmet… seriously.

Ryan Lipscomb lived to tell how it felt to have a truck run over his head. "Really strange," he said.
Lipscomb, 26 of Seattle, suffered a concussion but was otherwise unhurt. He was shaken up, especially after he saw his mangled helmet.
Lipscomb, a graduate student in medical physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was riding down a bike path in Madison on Friday afternoon. As he approached an intersection, he said, he noticed the oncoming delivery truck preparing to make a right turn in front of him.
The truck wasn’t going to stop, Lipscomb said, so he slammed …read more

Caught in the Act: Lying About Iraq

Caught in the Act: Lying About Iraq

Not that this means that everything US soldiers are doing in Iraq is kind, decent, and humanitarian, but seriously.  Here is a story of a fake soldier claiming fake atrocities by an army to which he does not belong in a country he has never been to.  Is this what it takes to be a leader in the "anti-war" movement?  Read all about it…

Jesse Adam Macbeth, 23, formerly of Phoenix, garnered attention on blogs and in some alternative media after he began claiming in 2005 to have been awarded a Purple Heart for his service, which he said included slaughtering …read more

Man Hires Hit Man to Kill Family

Man Hires Hit Man to Kill Family

This guy is nuts, no questions asked. Stick him in prison as fast as possible.

A man tried to hire a hit man to kill three family members, including his 7-year-old daughter, even requesting that she be shot once in the chest, and not the head, so there could be an open casket at her funeral, authorities say.
John Orlowski, 49, was arrested Friday and was due to appear in federal court Monday.
"Thankfully the plot was uncovered by law enforcement, and three innocent victims avoided a horrible tragedy," U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan said.
Orlowski faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison …read more

What’s a website … for the record?

What’s a website … for the record?

Internet, that’s the one with the email right?  Is anyone else concerned that the judge presiding over a case of alleged cyber-terrorism doesn’t know what a website is?  Read on…

A judge who asked the meaning of a “website” has insisted that he is entirely “computer-literate” and that he was seeking an explanation “in the interests of justice”.
Mr Justice Openshaw, who is in the fifth week of presiding over the trial of three alleged “cyber-terrorists”, issued a swift response to reports yesterday, maintaining that his comment had been taken out of context. A statement said that trial judges “frequently ask questions …read more

400 lb. Goriilla Gets Loose

400 lb. Goriilla Gets Loose

You know, people often talk about the 400 pound gorilla in the room that everyone refuses to notice.  I guess Bokito, the Dutch gorilla, was tired of being ignored… so he broke out of his enclosure at the Rotterdam Zoo, terrified the guests, and bit a woman before he could be tranquilized.  Oops.

A 180kg (400-pound) gorilla has escaped from its enclosure and run amok at Rotterdam zoo in the Netherlands.
Witnesses reported seeing the gorilla, a dominant male, climb the enclosure’s wall and apparently bite a woman, as well as injuring three other people.
The zoo was evacuated as the gorilla was …read more

Whatever Happened to Bagged Lunches?

Whatever Happened to Bagged Lunches?

Perhaps someone should explain to Ezzat Attiya the irony in claiming that a man breast-feeding from a woman at work would be proof that they are not involved in illicit sexual activity.
Imagine the situation: Hi Janet, I noticed you had a baby recently and I’m awfully thirsty. Mind if I avail myself of your healthy milk sacs in the back office? No culture of mysogeny here. Read on…

Poisonous Toothpaste from China

Poisonous Toothpaste from China

First poisoned dog food, then poisoned cat food, and now this!  Time to start checking food labels to see if it comes from China.  Anyone else feeling a little bit concerned?

Diethylene glycol, a poisonous ingredient in some antifreeze, has been found in 6,000 tubes of toothpaste in Panama, and customs officials there said yesterday that the product appeared to have originated in China.
“Our preliminary information is that it came from China, but we don’t know that with certainty yet,” said Daniel Delgado Diamante, Panama’s director of customs. “We are still checking all the possible imports to see if there could …read more

Sea Lion Joins Walk-a-Thon

Sea Lion Joins Walk-a-Thon

This is really cute, but maybe it would be scary in person.

He has flippers instead of feet — and certainly no sneakers or hiking boots. But that didn’t stop a sea lion from joining schoolchildren on a walk-a-thon.
The marine mammal apparently noticed children doing laps Friday morning around a course they had set up at the Marin Country Day School next to the shores of the San Francisco Bay. The 185-pound Steller sea lion waddled ashore, shocking students and teachers.
"He did a whole lap," said Kelly Watson, director of constituent relations and web communications at the private school.
It was the …read more
