Parents Starve Baby on Vegan Diet
This is just really sad. What is it about being a vegan that would prevent this couple from properly feeding their baby? My husband was a vegetarian for 14 years and he did just fine. Bottom line: these parents are either really stupid or really cruel… or both.
A vegan couple have been sentenced to life in prison by a US court over the death of their malnourished baby.
The baby died six weeks after birth after being fed a diet largely made up of soy milk and organic apple juice.
Defence lawyers for Lamont Thomas and Jade Sanders said they had starved their child unintentionally by adhering to a strictly vegan diet.
But prosecutors in the US city of Atlanta said the couple had deliberately neglected their child.

First i would like to say people like to judge without even being in people’s shoes. all the news articles that are circulating around are saying that the baby died of malnutrition ’s but in some other articles i have read said that the baby had Pneumonia and thats was also a matter why the baby died but like there is always a persecussion against vegetarians they are making it seem more like they killed there own baby , which doesn’t make any since cause
“who doesn’t hurt an animal not even to eat it , will not hurt its own flesh and bones which was there own baby. animals which are not part of there family. but they did care for those who can not speak for themselves and protected them.so i think they are innocent ,have any of you made yourself this question How many babies haven’t died of Pneumonia in this world. Answer is thousand or even millions .

Albert Einstein’s was the most inteligent man in this world and he was a Vegetarian.
There are lots of people who desirve to be in jail like OJ SIMPSON and lots more and are free.

I agree completely with Jocelyn comments they do not deserve jail.
i was born a vegetarian and i am completely healthy.
pneumonia - is very serious and can kill an infant vegetarian or not.

If the baby had pneumonia, then WHY wasn’t that brought up as a mitigating factor in it’s death as well as the prematurity that it was evidently born with? I fail to understand how both of these conditions could NOT have been a serious factor in the decision on this case! If anyone feels that these parents, while foolish or ignorant, were misjudged and wrongly condemned, please let me know. I think life in prison is ridiculous in light of the situation.

Instead of looking at the contributing factors such as pneunomia, low birth weight and complications with natural birth. Its easier to sling mud at the vegan lifestyle and sells better for the media to slander and demoralize individuals.

My name is April, for about 3 to 4 years, I lived with the 2 parents that are being accused of this crime. First off, they are very much innocent!!! I am outraged at the court system that does not work!!! Believe me when I say that they would never intentionally hurt their child or any other child!!! I wish God would step down and show everyone how wrong they were, and wrong they are, about these 2 people.
I wonder how many other innocent people there are in prison that have been falsely accused. Unless you know for certain that these 2 people are guilty; then don’t judge them!
There is so much I could say about this case; but right now all I can do is pray.

it’s was stupid to begin with not taking the baby to the doctor. doesn’t england have socialized medicine?

I was Jade’s high school guidance counselor. She was the kindest, mildest, meekest ans quietest student. She would not and could not hurt a fly! I assisted her through her life planning process and helped her get into college. She is a very sweet loving and caring person. I am appalled by the situation in which she now finds herself! I don’t believe she has been treated fairly. The other mitigating circumstances need to be reviewed! My question is : what about the autopsy results? The only thing they are guilty of is being unsophisticated and poor!
