The Korean hostage crisis in Afghanistan which began in July has finally come to an end with the release of the final seven South Koreans.
Funny thing about rewarding people for bad behavior… they tend to do the same things over and over again. Don’t take it from me. See it in the Taliban spokesman’s own words:
“We will do the same thing with the other allies in Afghanistan, because we found this way to be successful”

This is one of the oddest stories I have read in awhile.  Canadian politics in particular tend to be pretty dull and repetitive, even when the various parties are sniping at one another.  Subliminal advertising is something new.  You know that someone at NDP campaign headquarters stuck this thing in as a private joke thinking no one would notice.  Oops.  Hehe.

There are many stupid things that one can leave at the office: pornography, private letters, suitcases of stolen cash, guns, and who knows what else.  This story breaking this morning, though, tops them all. 
Apparently the staff discovered several vials of nerve gas while cleaning out an office which had been brought from Iraq back in 1996.  1, why were there vials of nerve gas brought back to UN headquarters in the first place, and 2, why did it take 11 years to figure out they were there?  Dumb, dumb, dumb!  Read all about it below:

It’s stories like these that inspire me with confidence in the ability of the US and the Hamid Karzai government to reconstruct Aghanistan.  Placing a former drug dealer in the position of stemming corruption and drug trafficking in a country which has once again become the word’s top producer of opium seems so idiotic it’s difficult to describe.

There is some real poetic justice in this story.  At a festival dedicated to anarchists and anti-establishment types, someone has committed arson.  The 40-foot tall MAN who stands at the center of the Burning Man festival has been lit on fire 4 days early.  I wish I could have been there to see the verbal battle that broke out:

"Some people were chanting, ‘Let him burn, let him burn!’ and some were chanting, ‘Save the man, save the man!’ " Marx said.
