Bulletproof Backpacks for Sale
I’m not sure if this is just a sad reflection of the current state of American society or a perhaps premature reaction to the unfortunate perhaps violent realities of early child education… Bottom line, I’m a little creeped out:
Back to school shopping usually means new clothes and new school supplies.
But, now one company wants to add bullet proof backpacks to that list. The idea is being met with very mixed reaction.
On the one hand, people say that it certainly can’t hurt to have one. But one the other hand, we’re not talking about $20 or $30.
This backpack is $175, leaving many asking is it worth it?
It’s not a sound that you would normally associate with back to school shopping.
But a new company is challenging parents to do just that, by buying their kids bulletproof backpacks.
Mike Pelonzi says, "It’s a full size backpack, the only difference is it has a ballistic panel and that panel only weighs 20 ounces. The panel has been tested and successfully stopped 97% of shootings in our school systems."
But reaction to this new backpack is mixed.
High School Junior Jake Dorman thinks it’s a good idea.
Jake Dorman says, "It can’t harm you. It can only help you so it’s a pretty good idea."
But while Luz Barrozo says the backpack may protect against bullets, she doubts any student would actually be able to use it as a shield in a moment of panic.
Luz Barrozo says, "Yeah, let me take my backpack off and put it right here. That’s not what I’m going to think automatically."
Penn High School Associate Principal, Doug Chaffee’s number one concern is students safety. But he isn’t at all impressed with this backpack.
Doug Chaffee says, "It is rather ridiculous to think that someone would try to benefit financially by playing on somebody’s fears, whether it’s parents, whether it’s kids or anyone else."
Even police say, it’s just not necessary.
South Bend Capt. Phil Trent says, "Personally, I have kids in school and financially it doesn’t make sense to me to put body armor on them."
Especially with a price tag of $175.
Diamond Donaldson says, "I think it’s just a waste of money."
Dustin Orman says, "I really wouldn’t even pay $30 for a regular backpack."
It may be expensive, but as the company argues, it’s a backpack that could save a life.
The company’s owner also says that there has been a lot of interest in these backpacks since they started selling them a few days ago.
And most of that interest is actually coming from people in the midwest.

[…] all know how terrified everyone is of guns in schools. Hell, one company has even developed a bulletproof backback. But this is just school violence paranoia taken one step too […]
