Human Rights Denied on TV
One of the most pathetic new reality shows to premiere this coming Fall television season is Kid Nation. Featuring 40 children aged 8-14 living in New Mexico in a ghost town in which they must build a society without adults, already seems like a terrible idea.
Add to this "Lord of the Flies" with television cameras, the Smoking Gun’s analysis of the official participant agreement which frees CBS from liability from injury or death and contraction of a sexually transmitted disease, removes all privacy for the children aside from time in the restroom, and gives CBS consent to make all medical decisions on the child’s behalf.
Creepy, eh? Check out the report and the actual agreement minors and parents must sign here.
One more issue Smoking Gun doesn’t tackle… how does CBS plan to get around child labor laws to pull this show off? The UN will be all over this! not really…

I just saw the commercial for this show the other day, and while I didn’t like the idea then, after reading half of the agreement, I am in disbelief that any of the parents even agreed to any of this.
I am angered, and annoyed at the parents here. The producers and whomever, are accepting absolutely no responsibility for anything in concern with the children and/or parents, yet all these parents are basically signing off on everything in concern with their child….for the mere benefit of $5000 and being on tv? WTF!
