Fort Worth Grandma Says No Baggy Pants

by Ariel on January 14th, 2008

Grandma says no to baggy pants in Fort Worth The city of Fort Worth, Texas has begun it’s own crusade to discourage teenagers from wearing baggy pants.  Following the example of Atlanta, Georgia and various municipalities in Louisiana, the city council will vote tomorrow whether or not to officially support the "Pull ‘Em Up" educational campaign begun late last year in Dallas.

Not nearly as draconian as Atlanta’s law against sagging baggy pants, this Texan city is hoping that city-wide billboards featuring cartoonish images of grandmothers will be enough to shame kids into wearing clothes that fit.  Says Dallas City Councilperson Dwaine Caraway:

Grandmothers are the most respected and revered figures in our community and youngsters listen to the advice of their grandmother, so were hoping the next phase of this campaign resonates with our target audience.

All I can say is good luck with that.

I think that if you are not the one buying the clothes then why are you worried about whos wearing and how. So if thats the case then you should stop miniskirts, dazy duke shorts, and anything that we may not like . I think every one has there own way to dress due to our individuality. We are not all the same we do not think the same and we are not gonna have the same veiws as everyone else. Its up to the person if you wanna wear your pants hanging off your ass then so be it . If a fat girl wants to wear spandex pants and a halter top then go for who the are we to judge anyone on anything . Thats the problem with society to today everyone wants to worry about what everyone else is doing instead of minding our own buisness.
    To each its own…

Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s, I have always figured that no kid could ever come up with cloths that would bother me. Then they came up with the baggy pants hanging below their butts.

Yeah, as Nancy says, if you are not buying the pants why worry? But clearly Nancy isn’t buying the pants for her own kids, and fighting the same fight even IF I am paying for the pants.

Sorry, if these kids were out there working and contributing to society, making the grades, and truly being independent and making their own independent decisions that would be one thing.

But if they are just following the crowd, doing what they think makes them look good to their peers, then adults have just as much a right to influence their decisions as the kids around them.

And if these kids manage to learn to hear and understand the opinions of a range of people (not just their own peers) in a little thing like how to wear a belt, or how to match their waist size to the waist size on a pair of pants, then maybe they can apply this lesson in other, more important areas of their life.

I hate guys who where their pants down to their knees. Did they just get of prison? Do that in the privacy of your home.
