Accidental Self Hanging in Vancouver
Having lived in Vancouver, British Columbia for four years, I always said that Vancouver was one of the world’s most tolerant cities. For the most part, no one cares who you are, where you’re from, or what you do so long as you don’t invade their space.
A native once told me that if there were a guy in the middle of Granville (a main street) cutting his own head off with a chainsaw, people would say, "Hey man, he’s just doing his own thing." That’s why when I read about this story, I couldn’t help but think how appropriate it was.
One man is recovering in a Vancouver-area hospital tonight after his friend helped him hang himself from a tree. The intention was to film the incident for posterity. Of course, they never actually intended to really hang anyone.
Neither were trained stunt men and predictably the incident went horribly wrong. They don’t say, "Don’t try this at home" for nothing!
