Simply Dumb

You may not know it, but cows are actually one of the rudest animals around.  In fact, they belch so frequently and in such large numbers that the methane they release may contribute to global warming.

One Swedish university has taken this very seriously and been awarded $590,000 in funds to research the phenomenon.  According to project leader Jan Bertilsson of the Swedish University for Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, 20 cows will be involved in the study. 

By placing specially designed collars around the cows, they hope to measure the amount of methane released with each burp depending on the kind of food they consume.

Now maybe I’m just not particularly scientific, but it seems to me that if we want to make an honest attempt at halting large scale climate change, going after the cows just doesn’t seem to be going to the source of the problem.  What do you all think?
