More "Honest" Journalism from Gaza

By now, the Hamas-engineered destruction of the Gaza-Egypt border fence and the resulting uninterrupted flow of Palestinians to and from the Sinai Peninsula is already old news.

These dramatic events have themselves already overshadowed the temporary power "blackout" which supposedly resulted from Israel shutting off fuel supplies to the territory on January 22.  It was apparent from the start that the ruling powers in Gaza shut down the plants not necessarily for lack of fuel but as a twisted ploy for international sympathy.

In any event, further evidence is mounting and even some journalists are beginning to catch on.  For instance, check out this great picture of Hamas legislators working by candlelight and the corresponding Reuters caption:

hamas-fakes-blackout

Palestinian lawmakers attend a parliament session in candlelight during a power cut in Gaza January 22, 2008.

Just one big problem with this picture: the shot was taken around noon!  Note the drawn curtains.

If you think it’s surreal that Reuters would publish such an obviously warped photo, you don’t know much about the politics which drive this conflict.  Read all about the staged blackout here and check out more pictures at Solomonia here.  If you like drawn out political rants, read my commentary here.

just because this picture is a little weird doesn’t mean these people aren’t suffering. why would they blackout a whole city. people are dieing because of this blackout not because they were shot its because sick people who cant get what they need to survive (medicine, hospital care) aren’t allowed out of the city to get help and no help is coming for them. be sympathetic , how could you not have a heart!!

Why would they blackout a whole city indeed? Sorry kiddo but killing off the sick and disabled to advance a political agenda is pretty old hat for Hamas. If you don’t know that, you don’t know much about their modus operandi.
