Meet the Chicago Winter

Today I had my own simply dumb moment walking to campus. I was in a bit of a rush for an 11 am meeting and didn’t really pay attention to the fact that we have been experiencing a lot of cold, wet weather here in Chicago.
What this means in practical terms is that there is a light covering of snow everywhere which just barely obscures sheets of thick, uneven slippery ice below. Not watching my step, I took a dramatic fall and really hurt my arm. Thank you to the generous couple who found me writhing in pain on the sidewalk and drove me the mile or so I had left to reach the university!
I had it x-rayed and fortunately nothing is broken. It does, however, hurt like hell, and I can’t fully extend or retract my joint at the elbow. Awkward sleeping tonight, painful typing now, lots of pain pills for the next few days. Lesson learned: don’t rush in the winter and take the bus!
***Correction… it’s fractured. So much for 1st shot x-ray readings. Posting will be a little slow for awhile. Sorry folks. ***
