A White Castle Wedding
Three, yes count ‘em three, couples got married this Valentine’s Day in one extra special White Castle burger joint in Columbus, Ohio.
Making their experience even more…um…special was a flower girl throwing salt and pepper packages at the newlyweds instead of rice and the grooms wearing official White Castle employee nametags on their lapels. To top it all off, the couples celebrated with a wedding cake shaped like three “slyder” burgers, fries, and a pop.
Was there a catch? I think so… A local radio show broadcast the nuptials and paid for the flowers and other arrangements.
Let me lay out on the table how much of a Midwesterner I am not. I had never heard of the White Castle burger chain until the first Harold and Kumar movie was released a few years back. I still had never seen an actual White Castle until I moved to Chicago a year and a half ago.
The bottom line is, I don’t get it. What’s the big deal with White Castle anyway?

It’s some obsession, similar to the Krystal (another square hamburger) in the South. I’m from the north and it was big. I love seeing White Castles in the news though. thanks !
Nice story! I’m from the Midwest and I had always lived close to a White Castle until I came to the South. I knew of folks who would stop by the “WC lounge” after a night of partying, which makes sense given the fat content of those little sandwiches. Incredibly, I do know some people back home who love those little burgers. Alexandra is right that White Castle is an obsession for some.
