Man Kills Self Trying to Get Gold From His Computer
We have an early finalist for the the Darwin Awards, folks. An Oklahoma man poisoned himself and his girlfriend while using mercury to extract gold from computer parts. He died last Saturday, while his girlfriend is expected to make a full recovery.
Tulsa resident(Why did he have to be Southern?) Tony Winnett did enough study of chemistry to find out that mercury can separate gold from other metals, but not enough to know it’s poisonous. Police think he and his girlfriend inhaled the vapors. Not only that, an Environmental Protection Agency investigation revealed the home is so contaminated it’s unlivable.
Yeah, the microfragment or two of gold he’d have gotten from that procedure? Totally worth it.
