San Diego City Council Votes Themselves 24% Raise During Budget Cuts
City councils should not be able to vote a raise for themselves. Period. Why? Because of stupid crud like this. San Diego’s city council just voted themselves and additional 24% in salary. And this comes just hours after Mayor Sanders proposed a budget filled with service reductions and job cuts. One hundred twenty-seven job cuts.
This makes me so angry. San Diego has suffered from mismanagement for years. It has the one of the worst bond ratings of any major city. And the council feels they are doing such a stellar job that they deserve raises? Frankly, they should all be canned immediately.
The raise is proposed to go into effect January 1 when term limits are going to force half of the council members to leave. Conveniently, though, their pensions would go up even if they are leaving. Council salaries would go from $75,386 up to $93,485. During times of high gas prices (just under $4/ gallon right now), budget shortfalls, and real estate values crashing, this council shows just how ridiculously out of touch they are.
Shame on you, city council. Your votes show how simply dumb you really are.

No kidding. That might actually cover how much gas & groceries have gone up!
