Peanuts Used in Felony by 13-year-old

by Becky on April 21st, 2008

568967_peanuts_1.jpgAn eighth-grader could face felony charges for putting crumbled peanut butter cookies in someone else’s lunch box. That other someone has a severe allergy to peanuts.

Fortunately, the student with allergies didn’t eat the cookies nor suffer a reaction. For many with peanut allergies, even trace amounts of peanuts or peanut oil can cause a bad reaction. Or even death.

Apparently the first student was seen putting the cookies into the lunch box towards the end of lunch. Yet the second student’s severe peanut allergies are well known at the school. That is seriously messed up, man. Kids just don’t think through the consequences of their actions. We wonder if this 13-year-old even realized that peanuts can kill.

After investigating, police charged the student with felony endangerment. This is a sad situation. We’re certainly glad to hear that the kid with allergies wasn’t hurt. But man, this kid probably just thought that the other kid would get sick, not die. Really, who would seriously think of peanuts as a deadly weapon? But for people with severe peanut allergies, they can be.
