Banana Prank Results in Suspensions
Eleven seniors at a Zion, Ill. high school were suspended for a prank. A student in a gorilla suit chased banana-clad students around the hallways at the Zion-Benton Township High School.
The suspensions will last seven days. Seven days, people! For a prank where people were amused. No one was hurt, maligned, abused, or even embarrassed. No one slipped on a banana peel. Now the seniors DID call in sick that day, and wore pantyhose over their faces to prevent officials identifying them. But that’s it.
Seriously. If a gorilla chased a bunch of bananas through our school? We would have laughed our faces off. We can understand needing to keep order and discipline and to discourage calling in a false sick claim. Yet we contend that seven days is a bit of an overreaction. What happened to having a sense of humor?

I think so, too. It was disruptive, yes. But 7 days? A bit excessive.
