Stupid Thief Deposits Stolen Coins with the Man He Robbed

coinsA German thief stole a rare collection of coins and decided to take them to the bank for safe keeping. Bad idea.

After he made the deposit, a bank worker looked at the coins and recognized them. The coins, worth around 50,000 euros ($79,000 US), had been stolen from him three days earlier.

Oops. Police then tracked down the thief, arrested him, and scored a bunch of other stolen items, too.

Oh, we love the irony of this one. Steal some coins, take them to the bank. Get caught by the bank worker from whom you stole them. Who would take stolen coins and deposit them in the bank? Did the thief even know that these were rare? And that coins are pretty easy to track (if they’re unique)? I bet that bank employee feels pretty vindicated about right now.
