Paula’s Goofiness Is Integral Part of Idol
When I was in high school, like many teenage boys in the 90’s, I thought Paula Abdul was Forever My Girl. In a creative writing class I actually wrote an essay about how we were destined to be together. Boy, looking back you have to be so grateful about all the prayers God didn’t answer for you.
Of course American Idol has no plans to dump Abdul. She’s especially important during the middle part of the season when there are still too many would-be Idols in the mix. Even when there’s nothing good to talk about, Paula’s inevitable mental meltdowns give us something.
She’s been in rare form this year. There was her uncomfortable dissertation about liking mutts while judging contestant Ramiele Malubay, her description of the “colors” of someone’s voice and yes, her complete lapse in space and time this week.
Paula’s forgetting how many songs she had seen Jason Castro perform now has some up in arms that the show’s rigged. The “reality” in reality TV is in name only and always has been.
Besides which, it’s been obvious for years voters don’t take what the judges say into consideration. Last year’s bizarre Sanjaya run is proof positive of that.

eh i disagree people dont take what the judges say into consideration. jordin was the one who probably got the best comments last year and she Won. sanjaya only finished 7th, thats not very good. and paula, she rox, i just love her.
