Somewhere, beyond the sea there’s a burial site for you

If you really, really love the water, you can do more than have a burial at sea with your ashes strewn across the water. You can get buried in the sea, off the coast of Florida.
And this underwater cemetery has gates, pathways, plaques, and benches. It’s open to certified divers, too. The Neptune Memorial Reef opened last fall in the open waters 3 1/4 miles off the coast of Key Biscayne. The first phase of the reef is set to allow 850 remains.
They mix the ashes with a cement designed for underwater use and fit it into a mold. A diver then secures it to the reef. And they even install a copper and bronze plaque with the person’s name, date of birth and death.
We’re not really sure if this is cool, or creepy. It probably is kinda cool for divers. But since we’re not quite fans of dark and scary cemeteries, especially one that can include things like stingrays and sharks, we are still leaning towards creepy.
