Maybe We Should Get Imus a Shock Collar

Even with his radio career on the line (and it is every day at this point) Don Imus can’t stop saying dumb things. Imus has been in radio longer than Marconi and should have known better than his comments about the Rutgers’ women’s basketball team.

His career somehow survived the uproar and he’s working again. Barely into his relaunch he’s making more misguided comments about race. We may never know what Imus was really trying to say about Adam “I Don’t Want To Be Pacman Anymore” Jones.  At this stage of his senility Imus may not even know. But Imus afterthought defense that he was trying to say Pacman gets harassed only because he’s black?

This is even worse than the inappropriate comment. Jones is an example that reinforces every negative stereotype about African-American athletes. Jones gets questioned by the police because people keep getting shot when he’s around, not because he’s Black.

There is enough actual injustice in the world without idiots like Jones and Imus clouding or being used to cloud the issue. I’m an optimist at heart. I’d like to think that both Imus and Jones have turned over new leaves. But the smart money is that Imus will be off the air or causing enough public outrage that he should be in a year. Likewise, Jones will probably be in trouble with the law or the National Football League within the same time span.
