Packers Offer Favre $20 Million to Go Away

Packers Offer Favre $20 Million to Go Away

Being fortunate enough to work from home, I’ll admit I see my fair share of soap operas. None of them approach the real life drama playing out in Green Bay, where ESPN is reporting the Green Bay Packers will pay Brett Favre $20 million to not let the door hit him where the Good Lord split him.
It’s a public relations nightmare for the Packers, who are taking a beating for not letting Favre follow up one of the best seasons of his career. This debacle makes the way San Francisco kicked Joe Montana to the curb look like Love Story …read more

China wants $1billion from Sharon Stone

China wants $1billion from Sharon Stone

Remember how Sharon Stone insulted Chinese earthquake victims? Well, now more than 1,000 victims and a New York lawyer want $1 billion from the actress. Or possibly an apology. Stone was actually served with papers by an attorney who plans to sue her for her words against the Chinese people.
Stone took the country to task for its occupation of Tibet, suggesting that maybe the earthquake was karma. Tell that to the thousands of families who lost children and other loved ones in the quake. It’s doubtful they would feel like hearing about how karma’s getting all up in their face …read more

Brazillian priest’s body found at sea

Brazillian priest’s body found at sea

Back in April, a priest had an idea for a fundraiser for his local parish. He thought he’d tie a bunch of helium balloons to a chair, float in the air, and get people to donate.
Unfortunately, the priest only partially succeeded. He did tie balloons to his chair/ contraption. And he did float. Only he crashed into the ocean and was lost for three months.
The search is over, though, as his body was found off the coast of southeastern Brazil.
Far be it from us to malign this poor man. We think it’s sad that his stunt had to end this …read more

Arkansas License Plates ‘Racist’

Arkansas License Plates ‘Racist’

File this one under “You have got to be kidding me.” Hundreds of Arkansas license plates are being pulled from circulation this week. Like North Carolina, the plates are considered offensive. But in this case, some residents are calling them racist.
Really? How can a license plate with a random letter/ number combo be racist? (We can see how a personalized one could be. But random ones? Hardly.) An Arkansas woman complained that she couldn’t imagine putting a plate with “018-NGR” on her car.
You have got to be joking here. It’s not like the OMV did that on purpose. It seems …read more

Glad Congress Got Around To This

Glad Congress Got Around To This

Legislation currently in the House of Representatives would apologize to African-Americans for slavery and Jim Crow laws. Better late than never, I guess. Individual states have apologized but this would be the first national apology.
As an African-American, I’m unsure whose butt we’re supposed to kick at this point. Nobody’s alive that was in power when slavery existed – not even John McCain is that old. And Strom Thurmond died a while back, possibly when somebody told him slavery was outlawed.
In an interesting side note, African-American representative candidate Nikki Tinker is saying the timing of the measure is politically motivated. …read more

They’re Making a Fifth Saw Movie?

They’re Making a Fifth Saw Movie?

Criminy, Hollywood it is O.K. to leave one dollar on the table where a major film franchise is concerned. When I saw an ad for this I was hoping it was a parody and Frank Caliendo was going to pop up, but no such luck.
Let it go, guys, let it go. And didn’t the villain die in Saw 3? Come on, already. Wouldn’t it be great if a movie made money and the company said you know what, that was a unique and exciting piece of art. Let’s not ruin it by trying to reanimate this film’s corpse three or …read more

Man grows begonias… and marijuana

Man grows begonias… and marijuana

How would you like to have the police knock on your door, telling you that your lovely begonias have marijuana growing around them? A 73-year-old Dutch man was contacted by police when they found marijuana plants amongst his favorite flowers. The man was quite surprised.
The cynic in me says yeah, sure. But he guy is 73, and he promised police that he’d destroy the plants. Heh, we wonder if he’ll burn them (maybe just a little at a time?). He didn’t want to lose his begonias, so he’ll be removing the other plants from around them.
He thinks some local …read more

Spears pays Federline $20K per month child support

Spears pays Federline $20K per month child support

Kevin Federline is getting child support from Britney Spears. To the tune of $20,000 per month. And that’s a $5,000/month bump from last year.
Is it just me or is that a crazy amount of child support? Oh sure, Spears probably has a lot of money from when, you know, she actually sang and gave concerts. We’re not saying she shouldn’t be paying that to support her children. Maybe she should.
But do you know anyone who would need $20K a month for two kids? I bet most people we know could make that last 5 months at minimum. The amounts of …read more

Overanalyzing Obama’s European Trip

Overanalyzing Obama’s European Trip

John McCain, trying to deflect criticism from his forgetting that Iraq and Pakistan don’t share a border, is blasting Barack Obama for skipping a trip to a military hospital.
Really? With gas more expensive than gold and the government having to bail out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are the campaign stops made or not made going to be pivotal? Please be kidding me.
There are a number of meaningful ways McCain could discredit Obama, the most obvious being a lack of experience. There’s the old Republican standby of claiming Obama would be soft on terrorism. Since there are still way too …read more

Book publisher sues Lil Kim and Foxy Brown

Book publisher sues Lil Kim and Foxy Brown

Book publisher Simon & Schuster doesn’t like it when celebrities don’t keep their word. Even if they were in jail and didn’t produce a book when promised.
Simon & Schuster apparently doled out some hefty advances to two rappers for books they were supposed to pen. Lil Kim got $40,000 in 2003 and Foxy Brown got $75,000 in 2005. But neither woman followed through with a completed book.
And since they didn’t fulfill the agreement, the company is suing them for breach of contract. Usually, publishers try to avoid actual litigation. They give the would-be author some time to either complete the …read more
