John McCain advisor Phil Gramm has stepped down as co-chair of McCain’s campaign after Gramm’s controversial claim that the only recession in this country is mental.
Because obviously Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae aren’t on the verge of bankruptcy, gas isn’t $4 a gallon and Anheiser-Busch didn’t just sell out to the Belgians.
McCain moved even more quickly to denounce this nonsense than his opponent Barack Obama did. You know what? Let’s just agree now that neither McCain or Obama should be held responsible for the really dumb things their supporters are saying. I can’t imagine why people think the Republicans are elitist and out of touch.
In related news, Gramm also doesn’t believe we landed on the moon, that Elvis Presley is dead or that Kim Kardashian got a big ol’ butt. Oh yeah.
