Bite Your Olympic Opponent? It’s All Good

Shark Bite Research Carried Out At UNSW

The Associated Press reports that Dzhakhon Kurbanov, the light heavyweight from Tajikistan who bit his opponent on the shoulder in a quarterfinal bout, will not face sanctions or suspension by the International Boxing Association.

His only punishment for taking a page out of the Mike Tyson Boxing Manual will be disqualification from the Olympic boxing tournament. With 17 seconds left in the third round of his bout with Kazakhstan’s Yerkebulan Shynaliyev. Kurbanov was trailing 12-6. Then during a clinch he took a bite out of his opponent and the ref understandably stopped the fight. Shynaliyev clinched a medal and advanced to Friday’s semifinals. He also has one crazy story to tell the folks back home.

This begs the question: What would one have to do to get sanctioned by the IBA? Haul off and kick your opponent someplace uncomfortable? Drop the ref in the Stone Cold Stunner ala WWE? Make them watch Undisputed?
