Hi, My Name Is Ocho Cinco:Maybe
Last week, Simply Dumb Sports reported on the ridiculousness of Chad Johnson’s legal name change to his nickname Ocho Cinco. Well, legally he can call himself anything he wants (you don’t want to know what some NFL fans are calling him) but if he wants to change his game jersey he’s got to pay.
CNBC’s Darren Rovell explains the problem here. If Chad wants to be Ocho Cinco on his game jersey, he would have to buy the remaining Chad Johnson jerseys from Reebok, who makes the NFL’s jerseys. That could cost nearly $5 million by some estimates. Since a large portion of the reason Chad reportedly changed his name was so he could be the nickname on his jersey, this is a job for Simply Dumb.
But a number of fans think the NFL and Reebok are being really dumb here, since all the publicity would likely help them sell more than $5 million worth of “Ocho Cinco” jerseys. Readers, what would you do if you were “Ocho Cinco?”
