New ways to raise money for college
Internet begging is reaching whole new levels. An 18-year-old heading to New York University is pleading for money via e-mail. It’s actually not a hoax, according to reports.
The boy’s mother is on disability and his father works three jobs. And still? Grants and loans only pay for half of the school expenses. Which are $50,000 a year.
How about choosing a cheaper school? Or cheaper housing?
Look, I totally get how hard it is to pay for college. I worked full-time and went to school full-time. I have a lot of debt to pay off. But I chose a more affordable college exactly because of cost (and scheduling, but that’s another story).
If your grants and loans can’t pay for school, and you can’t work enough to cover the rest? Choose a different school. Period.
He has raised about $6,000 so far. Instead of offering to pay the money back, he promises to send a souvenir in the form of a piece of his cap or gown. *sigh* How about showing a little responsibility and treating it as a loan and paying people back?
The entitlement of some kids these days just stupefies me. And not in a good way.
