The rules were clear to everyone who planned to obey them, Bill. He compounded his stupidity by taping the New York Jets, coached by his former assistant Eric Mangini. If you’re going to cheat, don’t do it against people who know how you cheat down to where the cameras will be.

Then in typical fashion for one of the league’s great sourpusses, Belichick does his best to try and not answer questions about the incident.

“Can we talk about San Diego? Does anyone have any questions about San Diego?”

No, Bill at that point we really didn’t. You don’t fall under suspicion for cheating your way to a dynasty and think reporters are going to toss you softballs.

I have no idea what CBS News promised him to get Belichick to do that interview, but he continued to be as unconvincing as Katie Couric’s ratings. I think it was pure karma that the Patsies went undefeated and then turned in the mother of all choke jobs in the Super Bowl.

Kudoes to Dolphins coaching great Don Shula, whose team went all the way undefeated, for calling Belichick on this nonsense. Does it tarnish the Pats’ Super Bowl victories? Of course it does. But I’ll talk more about that in the second part of this column.

Post from: Simply Dumb

Boston Herald to Pats: Our Bad

MSM Inaccuracies and Retractions

Boston Herald

New England Patriots

Spygate

St. Louis Rams

The Boston Herald is surely drowning in hate mail right now after it retracted a Feb. 2 article accusing the New England Patriots of videotaping the St. Louis Rams’ Super Bowl XXXVI walkthrough. Um, oopsie? The Herald now admits they didn’t the have the tape, see the tape or talk to anyone who had. Which astute readers probably figured out after hearing the tape didn’t exist to begin with. There are nearly 500 comments attached to the online version of their retraction and as you might imagine, they’re almost universally negative.

To make things even worse, the Herald published the controversial story the day before the Super Bowl. Doh! Not everyone is letting the Pats off the hook for Spygate so easily though. Sen. Arlen Specter is calling for a George Mitchell-style investigation of the whole videotaping scandal.

So it’s not that the Patriots didn’t cheat, or even that they didn’t cheat at that Super Bowl. Right now it’s just that nobody can prove they cheated at that Super Bowl.

So to wrap up, Pats and Coach Bill Belichick are still not in the clear and the Boston Herald screwed up royally. In tomorrow’s edition, a tasty recipe for crow.

Post from: Simply Dumb
